Trophies are souvenirs of victories. A trophy is an object of great admiration and idolization. Trophies are mementoes to be treasured forever. They could be awarded for certain accomplishments, or a memento of membership, or a souvenir from an event. Trophies as awards are especially common for scholastic, sporting and office achievements. Academic awards are given in the form of trophies for different classes and subject proficiencies.
Trophies are made of different materials. Gold and silver are the costly, highly sought after metals. But other metals like pewter and steel and crystal are also common. Shapes are also very different catering to the different requirements. A wrestler is seen in a wrestling trophy, a football player in a football trophy, a golfer in action in a golf trophy and a baseball player in a baseball trophy. No one can forget the pictures of sportsmen weeping with joy and clutching their hard-earned trophies.
Golf trophies carry the reward of instant fame and fortune. Golf trophies have the figure of a golfer teeing away, or a golf ball, or a golf kit. Golf tours of certain regions are avidly followed by fans worldwide, and toughly contested for. Trophies from certain games are much coveted. In Soccer, the FIFA world cup, European championship, Copa America, African Nations Cup, Asia cup and others are the much-sought-after trophies. The oldest course in the world is the Old Links at Musselburgh, where the game has been played since 1672. The links at St. Andrews occupy a narrow strip of land along the sea.
Football Trophies have footballs with customized engravings, or a goalie or player in action. American football is played at different levels. Professional wrestling is led by a wrestling tournament under the World Wrestling Federation.
In addition to sports, trophies are awarded to police officers, firefighters and other active duty government officials for achievements of exceptional valor and courage. These include traditional cup-shaped trophies, plaques and even bobble-head images of officers as trophies.
